You've just been arrested in Ventura, now what do you do? You are in a county with a different style of justice, and that is definitely true. But just because you have heard that Ventura is tough doesn't mean that you must not fight your case. It means that you have to fight even harder than usual to defend your rights, which is why having the right Criminal Defense Attorney is key.
Ventura has a reputation for having a "plead, or go to trial" policy. In other words, Ventura does not usually "plea bargain" in the traditional sense that you may have come to know in other counties in the State of California. Still, you do have rights as a Defendant, and with the right attorney and an effective strategy, you can succeed.
Your most successful criminal defense is to hire someone that regularly practices in Ventura County. An attorney who regularly practices in Ventura knows the prosecutors who will be prosecuting you, the judges that will be judging the evidence, and most of all the local landscape.
It's important to ask your lawyer what percentage of their cases are in Ventura County. Where your lawyer's office is located is often an indication of how familiar they are with handling cases in Ventura County. Also make sure to ask your attorney how long they've been practicing in Ventura County.
