US Supreme Court to hear Louisiana death row appeal

The US Supreme Court will hear the appeal of a Louisiana man convicted and sentenced to death. A federal judge ruled the man was mentally disabled and ineligible for the death penalty. His ruing was overturned by the US Fifth Circuit Court. The case now heads for the Supreme Court.


Prop 47 Passes

With the passage of California Proposition 47 some low-level felonies, including drug possession, minor theft, and forgery, are now misdemeanors. It applies retroactively, so those in custody now without violent or sex-related past offenses may petition for a reduced sentence.
